Vernon Monument Dedication

Vernon Monument Dedication

Hi all, as you are aware, the dedication ceremony for the “Vernon Monument” was originally programmed to take place in Gunwharf Quays in 2020.  Admiral Lord Boyce had agreed to be the officiating VIP and it was expected that there would be up to 800 guests to include other dignitaries, service personnel, veterans and respective partners.  Sadly, at the very last minute, all had to be cancelled due to COVID 19 restrictions.

Given that the virus now appears to be (hopefully) under some degree of control, it was agreed at a recent monument meeting to go ahead and conduct the ceremony this year.  The date has been set as the 15th of July.  Admiral Lord Boyce has confirmed that he will again officiate the event.  Attendance will be by formal invitation only and is obviously, open to MWA members and partners.

An information leaflet giving details of timings, facilities and event layout is in the process of being produced and will be issued with the tickets to those who have expressed their wish to attend and selected.

If you would like to take part in this memorable event please send your contact details, which must include names of attendee’s, home/email addresses and telephone number to: johnturnbull105@gmail.com

It is also requested that any mobility requirements, wheel chair access etc.  be advised at this time.

Closing date will be 1 March 2022 and formal invitations will be sent out in May.

In addition, the chairman of the 1st class Divers Association, Colin (Scouse) Kidman has arranged a social evening at the Maritime Club, Portsmouth for the evening prior to the ceremony (14th of July) and all are welcome. If you would like to attend this event, then  please confirm to Scouse at: colkid47@outlook.com

Look forward to seeing you all there.
