Early years

The association continued to grow and adapt. In the early years the annual reunion took to the road, holding events in all regional areas from Stirling in Scotland to Weymouth in the South of England, not to mention some excellent events in Blackpool, Cardiff and Bristol as it tried to reach out to a growing membership now in excess of a 130 members. This included a good mix of both serving and ex serving Officers and ratings of the Minewarfare Fraternity. While these regional reunions brought the association around the UK attendance was often limited to the dedicated few willing to travel. It failed to achieve one of our main objectives to promote links and maintain comradeship between members, by serving the few rather than the many. It did not mean we will not occasionally hold reunions in locations in the wider regions, but only really on special occasions.

The regional get togethers continued however, with the occasional MWA meet-ups organized by our members to make it easier for those in far flung locations to continue those regional needs.
