The Vernon Monument Project Manager, Mr David Sandiford, has announced the date for the unveiling of the Vernon Monument.

The unveiling will take place on Wednesday 25 March 2020 at Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth. The various committees are working on the finer details which will be published as soon as they become available.

Additionally, it is hoped to hold the 2020 Reunion in the same week on Saturday 28 March depending upon the availability of a venue. This will be confirmed as soon as possible. The Committee are working on that as I type.

The MWA have been very proactive in supporting the project from its very outset. The association has donated a substantial amount of money towards the cost of the monument raised through raffles, auctions and other means. Members of the association have also taken part in or have organised a number of the fundraising events namely the Portsea Island Swim, the MWOTC Bike Ride organised by Pony Moore, attendance at two of the British Military Tournament events at Earls Court, but to name a few.
The MWA Standard will also be paraded at the ceremony along with the TON Class Association Standard. The MWA Standard will be paraded by John (Jan) Harvey whilst the TCA Standard paraded by Sam Cook.
Every member of the MWA is entitled to attend the unveiling and invitations will be sent out early in the New Year. It would be most helpful if you could indicate whether you would attend the ceremony either accompanied or unaccompanied by your partner/spouse. Please send me an email ( with your full names, address and email address (which will be on the email you send me). I will then annotate the membership and invitation lists accordingly.

Gentlemen. It would be fantastic to see a maximum attendance of MWA Members at the ceremony especially as you have contributed to its existence in a big way. Please give attendance at the ceremony some serious consideration. Book Your accommodation early as it will be in demand. Don’t forget the Royal Maritime Club [formerly the Home Club) offers good rates for accommodation and by using the MWA Membership Number, you will get a discount.

More details as they become available. I look forward to seeing you there.

Down Kite……for now
