Chair’s New Year Message 2026 & Upcoming MWA Events
As we step into 2026, the Chair of the Minewarfare Association, Jim Hawkins QVRM VR (Rtd), has shared his New Year message with members — reflecting on the year ahead and setting the scene for what promises to be a busy, sociable and memorable calendar of events.
In his message, Jim extends New Year wishes to all members and highlights the importance of staying connected, positive, and involved as we move through 2026 together Chairs 2026 New Year Message.
Key highlights for 2026 include:
⚓ MWA Reunion & AGM – March 2026
To round off the 50th Anniversary year, the MWA Reunion and AGM will take place 20–22 March 2026 in Portsmouth, returning members to the historic setting of HMS Vernon.
- Reunion night at the Old Customs House, Gunwharf Quays
- AGM planned for Saturday 21 March
- Smart-casual event with hot buffet, table or bar service
- Special group accommodation rates arranged at the Holiday Inn Express
- Booking and payment deadline: Sunday 15 February 2026
🏉 Army v Navy Shindig Reunion – May 2026
A weekend of rugby, camaraderie, food, accommodation and the usual banter. Full details to follow.
🍻 Black Tot Weekend – July / August 2026
Organised by Ray Standley — always a firm favourite in the MWA calendar.
🎖️ Cenotaph Remembrance Parade – November 2026
A televised national event requiring early commitment. Members are encouraged to register their interest via the MWA Events Facebook page.
🎄 MWA Christmas Dinner – December 2026 (TBC)
And of course, monthly MWA Dit Sessions continue throughout the year.
